The Washoe Board of County Commissioners has made a significant decision regarding the Library Board of Trustees, appointing two new members on June 16. After a rigorous selection process involving four voting rounds, Andrea Tavener and Marcus Nesbitt emerged as the chosen candidates from a pool of 25 applicants.
Residents actively participated in the public comment session, emphasizing the importance of trustees who advocate for libraries’ educational and community roles. This sentiment underscores the community’s vested interest in the library system’s leadership.
Andrea Tavener highlighted her commitment to financial objectives, specifically the completion of the library board’s strategic plan by year-end, which is crucial for securing federal and state funding. Her resume reveals her prior experience with the Washoe County Library system, including roles as a community resource center manager and development and public information officer.
On the other hand, Marcus Nesbitt, who works as a security professional at Allied Universal, did not attend the meeting or engage in the public comment period. Both Tavener and Nesbitt will commence their terms on July 1, concluding on June 30, 2030.
Additionally, Commissioner Alexis Hill has been appointed as the liaison between the county commissioners and the library trustees. This role has seen its first appointment since January 2015, marking a return to structured communication between these bodies.
