Candidate Discusses Affordability Crisis in Nevada

The rising cost of living is pushing many Nevadans to their financial limits, according to a local candidate who has decided to run for office. Born and raised in Carson City, the candidate has spent their entire adult life witnessing the increasing unaffordability within the state. “I’ve slowly watched as everything within my state has become unaffordable,” they stated, reflecting a sentiment shared by many in the community, friends, and family.

Addressing Affordability

The candidate identified affordability as the top issue affecting residents. The current situation makes it difficult for younger generations, and even people of the candidate’s generation, to afford housing. “When we’re sitting here looking at half a million dollars for a starter home, it’s untenable,” they commented. The candidate emphasized that housing, which they consider a human right, has become a commodity for venture capitalists, leading to spikes in homelessness and depression.

Representing Diverse Communities

Having worked as a wildland firefighter in Winnemucca and spending time in rural areas, the candidate is aware of the challenges faced by different communities across Northern Nevada. They noted that affordability issues are not limited to urban areas but also impact rural and tribal regions. The rising costs of housing, healthcare, and food are felt across the district. “I’ve been feeling that squeeze just like everyone else,” the candidate remarked, emphasizing their commitment to addressing these concerns for working-class Nevadans.
