ACLU Wins Legal Battle to Uphold Birthright Citizenship in the U.S.

Nevada leaders and advocates react to Supreme Court decision on birthright citizenship

ACLU Celebrates Legal Victory Over Executive Order on Birthright Citizenship

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is celebrating a significant legal triumph following a recent court ruling. Executive Director Athar Haseebullah expressed the organization’s determination in a written statement, emphasizing, “Wins like this are hard to come by, but the ACLU was made to fight.”

Haseebullah further asserted the ACLU’s commitment to safeguarding constitutional rights, stating, “[The ACLU] will not allow any politician to simply erode our constitutional rights via executive order…”

Support for the court’s decision was echoed by Nevada senators. Jacky Rosen and Catherine Cortez-Masto both released statements commending the outcome. Cortez-Masto reinforced the constitutional foundation of the issue, declaring, “There is no question – birthright citizenship has been and will continue to be a part of our Constitution.”

The ruling marks a setback for the president, who had initiated an executive order at the onset of his second term with the intent of altering the birthright citizenship law.
