In a thrilling update for Nebraska men’s basketball enthusiasts, the team has announced a significant return that promises to bolster its prospects for the upcoming season.
Star player and top scorer, Pryce Sandfort, has confirmed his return to the Huskers for another season, as revealed on the team’s social media platforms. During the 2025-26 season, Sandfort made headlines as a first-team all-Big Ten performer, averaging an impressive 18.1 points per game.
Having transferred from Iowa, the junior played a pivotal role in Nebraska’s historic season, which saw the team achieve its best performance to date. Sandfort was instrumental in the Huskers’ maiden NCAA Tournament victory against Troy, scoring seven three-pointers. The team set new benchmarks with 28 wins overall and 15 conference victories.
Throughout Nebraska’s appearance in the March Madness tournament, Sandfort showcased his prowess by hitting 16 three-pointers out of 28 attempts, maintaining an average of 21 points per game.
Head coach Fred Hoiberg took to X to express his thoughts on Sandfort’s decision to return, noting the player’s NBA interest but highlighting his focus on personal growth. Hoiberg stated, “He feels like we have a lot of unfinished business after this year, and he wants to solidify his legacy in Lincoln and put himself in the best position for a long professional career. It’s a testament to him for betting on himself and wanting to do it here at Nebraska.”
Sandfort’s remarkable season included setting a school record with 129 three-pointers, placing him second in Big Ten history for a single season, just behind Carson Edwards of Purdue, who made 135 threes in the 2018-19 season.
Alongside Sandfort, the Huskers will also see the return of redshirt freshman Braden Frager, while Berke Buyuktuncel, who started 33 games, has announced plans to transfer.
