Nebraska’s Dominating Performance: Sandfort Shines in Victory
On Saturday, Nebraska secured an impressive 87-64 win over Penn State, with Pryce Sandfort playing a pivotal role in the triumph. The former Iowa player, who had faced challenges against his previous team earlier in the week, demonstrated his prowess by sinking his first five three-point attempts, leading to a remarkable 20-point first half.
Sandfort’s contribution was crucial as his first-half 20 points equaled Penn State’s total and exceeded his teammates’ combined score, which helped Nebraska establish a commanding 38-20 lead going into halftime. Despite encountering some difficulties in the second half, Sandfort managed to tie a Nebraska single-game record with additional three three-pointers, culminating in a career-best 33 points.
Nebraska maintained their momentum, extending their advantage to 28 points shortly after the break. Although Penn State attempted to rally, they never reduced the deficit to less than 14 points.
In a post-game discussion on the Big Ten Network, Sandfort expressed gratitude towards his teammates for their support and playmaking. “Give all credit to my teammates and coaches, getting me in the right spots, getting me the ball on time and on target,” he stated.
The Huskers’ shooting accuracy was a significant factor in their win, with a 52% overall field goal percentage and 40% from beyond the arc. This victory improved their season record to 23-4, with a 12-4 standing in the Big Ten Conference.
Besides Sandfort, Braden Frager contributed 15 points, while Sam Hoiberg achieved his first career double-double, recording 11 points and 10 assists. However, the team faced some setbacks as Berke Buyuktuncel was absent due to illness, and Jamarques Lawrence suffered a leg injury in the second half, leaving the game and not returning.
Nebraska will next host Maryland in a home game scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m., with coverage by BTN. Fans will be eager to see if the Huskers can continue their winning streak.
