Progressive voter advocacy group focusing on Nebraska to boost voter turnout

Democratic Group Targets Nebraska for Increased Voter Turnout in 2026 Midterms

A significant effort is underway in Nebraska as the Progressive Turnout Project, a voter contact group aligned with the Democratic Party, channels resources to boost voter participation in the 2026 Midterm Elections. The group’s president, Alex Morgan, expressed a belief that the current political climate presents a prime opportunity for Democrats to reclaim seats, citing dissatisfaction with Republican policies.

“It’s a real opportunity for us to diversify the representation in the Nebraska delegation for the first time in a long time,” Morgan stated, emphasizing the group’s strategic focus on changing the political landscape.

Since its inception in 2015, the Progressive Turnout Project has been instrumental in supporting over 2,200 Democrats, raising a substantial $403 million for its cause. This year, Nebraska will benefit from a portion of a $44 million national investment aimed at increasing voter engagement. Through direct voter interactions and personalized outreach methods, the organization aims to connect with over 72,000 Nebraskan voters, with the ultimate goal of influencing a tightly contested U.S. House of Representatives majority.

Morgan critiqued the tenure of President Donald Trump, stating that the administration failed to uphold its foundational promises of cost reduction, non-engagement in wars, and prioritizing American interests. “Voters across the country have seen that the Trump administration is not putting Americans first,” he remarked. Morgan highlighted the economic challenges faced by Nebraskan farmers, attributing these hardships to broader policy failures and suggesting a desire for alternative representation.

With Republicans holding a slim majority in the House, Morgan recalled the 2018 midterms when Democrats successfully overturned a Republican majority. He expressed optimism about achieving a similar outcome in the upcoming elections, potentially reshaping national political dynamics.

In Nebraska, particular attention will be directed toward the 2nd Congressional District, a key area where the Progressive Turnout Project intends to concentrate its efforts. This district, currently represented by the retiring Republican Don Bacon, is poised for a competitive race as several Democratic candidates vie for the seat against a single Republican contender.
