Nebraska Eyes Historic Finish in Big Ten with Win Against Iowa

Nebraska looks for yet another school record with favorable results around the Big Ten

The Nebraska Cornhuskers men’s basketball team is poised to make history in their upcoming showdown against rival Iowa this Sunday. With significant implications for the Big Ten Tournament seeding, fans are eager to see if the Huskers can rise to the occasion and solidify their place in school history.

Should Nebraska triumph over Iowa and see Michigan State falter, they will clinch the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, marking their highest finish since joining the conference in 2011. A victory would also equal the school record of 26 wins set by the 1990-1991 team, highlighting the season’s remarkable success.

However, a loss for the Huskers paired with a Purdue victory could see them drop to the No. 5 seed. Achieving any position within the top four ensures a bye into the quarterfinals of the upcoming conference tournament. Regardless of other outcomes across the league, a Nebraska victory guarantees them at least the No. 3 seed, along with a triple bye.

The team’s previous best seeding in the Big Ten Tournament was as the No. 3 seed in 2024, led by the popular and skilled Keisei Tominaga. That year, the Huskers triumphed over Indiana in the quarterfinals before falling to Illinois in the semifinals. The 2024 team later advanced to the NCAA Tournament as the No. 8 seed but was defeated by No. 9 seed Texas A&M.

This season has already seen Nebraska achieve new milestones, including setting a school record for regular season victories with 25, and conference wins totaling 14, following their recent win over USC.

The eagerly anticipated clash against the Hawkeyes is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, with the game being broadcasted by Fox.
