The incident occurred on April 17 inside an apartment in Beaverton. Nova Hallett, along with her grandmother Charlene and her baby brother, was confronted with an emergency when Charlene unexpectedly fell, sustaining a head injury that caused her to become disoriented and begin bleeding.

Despite the gravity of the situation, young Nova reacted swiftly.

Without hesitation, she exited the apartment in search of assistance. Upon encountering a neighbor, she communicated her grandmother’s condition with urgency. This neighbor then alerted emergency services by dialing 911.

The timely arrival of first responders was met with an impressive sight. Nova, maintaining composure and clarity, guided them directly to her home. The apartment door was unlocked, allowing the responders quick access to assess and treat Charlene’s injuries.

Charlene was taken to a local hospital, where she spent nearly a week recovering before being discharged.

Nova’s mother, Haley Rose, expressed the profound impact of her daughter’s actions.

“What 4-year-old knows how to do that?” she said, reflecting on the events with a mix of disbelief and pride.

“We told her, ‘She’s in the hospital. She’s getting help. You helped her. She said, ‘Okay, I saved Grandma!’ She felt really, really proud.”

Local authorities have acknowledged Nova’s actions as extraordinary.

“Nova demonstrated an incredible level of bravery and awareness, especially for someone so young,” commented Beaverton Police Public Information Officer Matt Henderson. “Her ability to recognize an emergency, seek help, and guide first responders to her grandmother undoubtedly made a difference in the outcome.”

In recognition of her efforts, the Beaverton Police Department intends to nominate Nova for a community life-saving award.

For Nova, it was just another day as a real-life hero.
