Studies Challenge Mike Lawler’s Bipartisanship Claims with 100% Trump Support

Is Mike Lawler a moderate? Two separate studies say no.

Analysis Reveals New York Rep. Mike Lawler’s Alignment with Trump’s Agenda

Recent analyses have emerged highlighting New York Representative Mike Lawler’s consistent support for former President Donald Trump’s policies in 2025. Two separate studies have revealed that Lawler endorsed Trump’s legislative preferences entirely, raising questions about his self-proclaimed bipartisan stance.

The findings were presented by CAP Action, a progressive research organization, and VoteHub, a neutral media entity specializing in polling data analysis. These studies scrutinized the voting behavior of lawmakers on various bills that had clear backing from the Trump administration during 2025.

Among the bills Lawler supported are the contentious Rescissions Act, which reduced funding for foreign aid and public broadcasting, and the expansive One Big Beautiful Bill Act, predicted to exclude 7.8 million individuals from Medicaid by 2034.

Despite these findings, Lawler continues to project an image of moderation. Representing New York’s 17th District—a constituency known for its diverse political leanings—Lawler’s campaign highlights his “bipartisan, pragmatic approach to governing” as a key to his electoral success.

In a recent development, Lawler openly criticized former Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene on C-SPAN, attributing her lack of congressional achievements to a “failure to cooperate across party lines.” Yet, CAP Action and VoteHub indicate that Greene’s alignment with Trump and GOP policies was less pronounced than Lawler’s.

Additional insights from VoteView also showed that Lawler’s alignment with his party increased from 81% between 2023 and the end of 2024 to 92% from 2025 onwards, hinting at a shift towards greater partisanship since Trump’s resurgence.

As Lawler seeks a third term in office, the Democratic Party has identified him as a vulnerable target among House Republicans facing re-election.
