Howard Park Set for Major Expansion with $3.5 Million Federal Funding
The community surrounding Howard Park in Athens-Clarke County is poised for an exciting transformation. Thanks to advocacy by Senator Jon Ossoff, the park is set to receive close to $3.5 million in federal investments to enhance its facilities.
Currently, Howard Park spans six acres and features a pool and splash pad, amongst other recreational amenities. The new funding aims to significantly expand the existing community center, a move widely supported by local leadership across party lines.
Mayor Kelly Girtz expressed enthusiasm for the development, highlighting that the expanded facilities will enable an increase in youth-focused programs for neighborhood residents.
Athens-Clarke County Manager Bob Cowell emphasized the positive, long-term impacts that the funding will have on the local community, fostering lasting benefits and enhanced community engagement.
