Political Tensions Rise as Protests Erupt Over U.S. Strike on Venezuela

A wave of protests emerged across the United States following President Trump’s decision to launch a military strike on Venezuela. The controversial action, which included the capture of Venezuela’s president on January 3rd, has sparked widespread public outcry.

The city of Athens became a focal point for demonstrations, with the Party of Socialism and Liberation organizing an emergency protest on January 4th. This local action was part of a broader national and international movement dubbed “Hands off Venezuela,” which aims to oppose military intervention.

Following this, on January 5th, groups including the Athens-Clarke County Democrats and Indivisible GA 10 staged two additional protests in the city. These gatherings reflect a growing concern over the implications of U.S. foreign policy decisions.

While opposition voices have been vocal on the streets, supporters of President Trump have also been active, particularly on social media platforms. Notably, State Representative Houston Gaines of Athens expressed his support by praising America’s military efforts on ‘X’.
