Piedmont Athens Regional Hosts Symposium to Elevate Health Awareness in African American Community

Piedmont Athens Regional is set to commemorate Black History Month by organizing an enlightening health symposium this Saturday. This annual event, named the Howard Stroud Community Health Symposium and Lunch, seeks to enhance health education within the African American community of Athens-Clarke County.

The symposium will offer participants a chance to delve into various health topics such as aging, dementia, breast cancer in both genders, coping with grief, and vitiligo. In addition to these informative sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to acquire essential lifesaving skills, including Hands-Only CPR and Stop the Bleed techniques.

Named after Howard Stroud, a distinguished educator from Athens and the first Black individual to lead the Piedmont Athens Regional Board of Directors, the event holds significant historical value. It will take place at the Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Services Building A, located at 242 King Ave, from 9:45 am to 2 pm on Saturday. Both participation and parking are complimentary, although the availability of space is limited.
