Keisha Lance Bottoms Engages with Athens Residents Amidst Gubernatorial Campaign
On a sunny afternoon in Athens, Georgia, gubernatorial hopeful Keisha Lance Bottoms, known for her tenure as Atlanta’s mayor, connected with local citizens in a downtown meet and greet.
During her visit on Thursday, Bottoms, representing the Democratic Party, addressed a gathering of approximately 20 attendees. She emphasized her commitment to tackling pressing issues such as the affordability of housing and healthcare. Furthermore, she proposed the removal of income tax for educators as part of her policy agenda.
Bottoms articulated a vision of partnership between state government and communities like Athens to address homelessness effectively. “My biggest concern even when I served as Mayor of Atlanta was just shifting the homeless population from community to community without addressing the underlying issues,” Lance Bottoms stated. “The state can and should be a tremendous partner in this effort, from helping to make sure the wraparound services are available to even addressing the funding gaps that may exist.”
As the Democratic primary approaches on May 19th, Bottoms is set to compete against six other candidates, each vying for the opportunity to represent the party in the upcoming gubernatorial race.
