Residents of Athens-Clarke County have a chance to shape their community as the local government opens applications for various board positions. This initiative allows citizens to engage directly in local governance and decision-making processes.
Seats are available on a range of boards, including the Airport Authority, Library Board, Downtown Development Authority, Planning Commission, and Human Relations Commission, among others. Appointment durations vary, with some terms extending until 2029, while others last up to six years.
Eligibility requires applicants to be county residents. Individuals can apply for up to two positions, but must submit separate applications for each. Forms can be accessed online or at the Clerk of Commission’s Office located in City Hall.
The deadline for applications is April 10, 2026. Interviews are planned for April 28 or April 29, with final decisions anticipated during the May 5 Commission meeting. For more information, prospective applicants can contact the Clerk’s Office.
