Hendershot’s in Athens Celebrates New Ownership with Joyful Sendoff

Athens fixture Hendershot’s changes hands

Athens’ Beloved Hendershot’s Welcomes New Ownership

In a bittersweet yet joyful transition, Hendershot’s, a longtime staple in Athens, has changed hands. On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, the original owner, Seth Hendershot, bid farewell to his establishment with an all-day celebration.

Reflecting on the day, Hendershot remarked, “You know, this was going to be a last day for us, when we were going to close down. And it was going to be bittersweet. I was ready to move on, but I was very sad that we couldn’t keep it going.”

However, the transition was smoother than anticipated due to the arrival of new management. Hendershot expressed gratitude, saying, “And as fate, fortune, luck, whatever would have it, this young, wonderful couple stepped in and agreed to purchase the business and so it’s turned into this day of joy and celebration and my heart is full. Like I just, I can’t believe it’s working out this well for everybody. Not just for me, but for them, for the community. Yeah, sometimes, we get a win.”

Dave Martin and Lexi Torres, the new proprietors, intend to preserve the beloved name of Hendershot’s. Their introduction at the event was met with enthusiasm from the community.

Athens’ Poet Laureate, Amanda Dzimianski, was among those who attended the sendoff. She expressed her fondness for the venue, stating, “Hendershot’s is one of my top three favorite places in the city of Athens. It feels like a community living room.”

For over 15 years, Hendershot’s has held a cherished place in Athens, and this new chapter promises to continue its legacy.
