Georgia Gubernatorial Candidate Shifts Focus Amidst Campaign Challenges
In a surprising political maneuver, Georgia State Rep. Ruwa Romman has decided to end her bid for the governor’s office, redirecting her ambitions towards a State Senate seat. This decision comes amidst a crowded primary field and unforeseen financial hurdles.
Announcing her withdrawal on social media, Romman, who represents Forsyth County and affiliates with the Democratic Party, revealed her plan to campaign for the State Senate District 7 in Gwinnett County. She cited funding difficulties as a primary reason for her gubernatorial campaign’s cessation, also pointing to the influence of “dark money” potentially backing her opponent. “Dark money” refers to anonymous contributions from outside groups that aim to influence election outcomes.
Despite Romman’s exit from the gubernatorial race, the competition remains intense with 14 candidates still vying for the Republican and Democratic nominations ahead of the May 19 primary.
Eligible voters preparing for the 2026 primaries can begin requesting absentee ballots starting Monday, March 2. Further details are available at georgia.gov/vote-absentee-ballot.
