Georgia’s DCS Commissioner Michael Nail to Retire, Scott Maurer Named Successor
In a significant leadership transition, Georgia’s Department of Community Supervision (DCS) will see a change at its helm. Governor Brian Kemp has confirmed that Commissioner Michael Nail is set to retire this fall, marking the end of a distinguished 37-year career in public service.
The DCS, a pivotal agency within Georgia’s executive branch, was established under Governor Nathan Deal’s criminal justice reform initiative. It plays a crucial role in supervising parolees and coordinating efforts across multiple departments.
Michael Nail has been instrumental in the agency’s operations since its founding in 2015. His extensive career also includes valuable contributions to the Department of Corrections and the State Board of Pardons and Paroles, showcasing his longstanding commitment to the state’s corrections system.
Governor Kemp has appointed Scott Maurer, the current DCS chief of staff and a foundational member of the agency, to succeed Nail. Maurer will officially take on the role of commissioner following Nail’s retirement on October 1st.
