UGA names Dean for School of Nursing

University of Georgia Appoints Founding Dean for New Nursing School

The University of Georgia (UGA) is set to enhance its educational offerings with the establishment of a new School of Nursing, and the appointment of its founding Dean marks a significant milestone. Carolyn K. Clevenger, a prominent figure in nursing education and dementia care, will take on this pivotal role.

Clevenger, who is currently a professor at Emory University’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, comes with a wealth of experience. She is also the founder and director of Integrated Memory Care at Emory Healthcare, where her research has been pivotal in advancing care for dementia patients and developing educational programs for their families and caregivers.

Her appointment, which commences in January 2026, coincides with her joining the faculty in the Division of Geriatric Medicine at UGA. This dual role will allow her to integrate her research interests with her leadership responsibilities in shaping the future of UGA’s nursing education.

The decision to establish the School of Nursing was approved by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents in May. The school plans to welcome its inaugural class in the fall of 2027, setting the stage for a new era in nursing education at UGA.
