Investigation Underway Following Tragic Death of Local Student-Athlete
Authorities in Athens-Clarke County are delving into the circumstances surrounding the untimely death of a young man on Thursday evening. At around 8:16 p.m., police were called to Madison Avenue’s 100 block, where they discovered 22-year-old Antonio Jewell, a resident of Winterville, GA, lying on the sidewalk.
Despite the prompt response and lifesaving attempts by Emergency Medical Services and the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department, Jewell was pronounced dead at the scene. The police have not yet released any information regarding the potential cause of his death.
Jewell, remembered as a student-athlete, graduated from Clarke Central High School in 2022. The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is actively investigating the events leading up to his death.
