Athens-Clarke County to Discuss $200M Judicial Center Project

ACC Mayor and Commission to discuss new Judicial Center and budget

Athens-Clarke County Plans for New Judicial Center

In a significant move for the judicial infrastructure of Athens-Clarke County, local officials are gearing up to deliberate on the development of a new Judicial Center. This crucial discussion is scheduled for Wednesday evening, involving the Mayor and Commission.

The proposed location for this ambitious project is 120 W. Dougherty Street. Before construction can proceed, the Commission must approve not only the site but also the establishment of the Urban Redevelopment Agency. This agency will play a vital role in managing the financial aspects crucial for the project’s completion.

The construction is projected to exceed $200 million in costs, with a portion of the funding allocated from the SPLOST 2020 project budget, a financial plan ratified by voters in 2019.

Residents of Athens-Clarke County will have the chance to voice their opinions on both the Judicial Center and the fiscal budget for the upcoming year during the Mayor and Commission Agenda Setting Session and the Taxpayer Bill of Rights Hearing.

This pivotal meeting is slated for May 20, 2026, at 6 p.m. and will take place at City Hall.
