Key Budget Decisions Loom for Triad School Boards

This week, the focus is on two major school boards in the Triad area as they deliberate on their local budget proposals. These meetings are set to shape the financial landscape for the upcoming academic year.

On Tuesday, Guilford County Schools will convene a public hearing regarding the superintendent’s budget proposal. The proposal outlines a $313 million request to the county commissioners. Central to this budget are proposed pay raises for school staff and funds for updating technological resources. Community members interested in voicing their opinions must register by emailing the school board clerk before noon on the day of the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education is also set to discuss its budget recommendations. Superintendent Don Phipps will share his proposal, which has been formulated through a series of workshops and consultations with local educators. Among the priorities are the restoration of over 80 positions in the exceptional children department and a $1 million allocation for bilingual support services.
