A Musical Tribute: New Art Installation at Burlington Arboretum
Amid the natural beauty of the Burlington Arboretum, a striking new addition awaits visitors. This interactive, climbable sculpture serves as a dynamic homage to John Currin, a cherished figure in the community.
The centerpiece of this installation is a vibrant, 12-foot aluminum guitar. This artistic marvel not only celebrates Currin’s passion for music and community but also offers a playful experience. Children are invited to ascend via a built-in ladder, while the metal pipes representing strings produce various pitches when tapped.
Casey Lewis, the creative mind behind the sculpture, hails from Burlington and represents Beechwood Metalworks. Reflecting on the project, Lewis shares, “We don’t recognize all the time what children are going through, whether they’re just getting to play on a playground, we don’t know what their home lives are like, and being able to have some impact on their lives and bring some happiness or joy into their lives is a thing that I definitely treasure.”
This artistic endeavor is the result of a collaboration between Impact Alamance and the New Leaf Society. The ongoing care of the sculpture will be entrusted to Burlington Recreation and Parks.
