Holiday Shopping Budgets Across U.S. Cities: What to Expect
As the holiday shopping frenzy approaches with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, understanding spending habits and financial limits becomes crucial. A new analysis sheds light on the expected holiday budgets for various cities nationwide.
This year, holiday sales are anticipated to surpass the $1 trillion mark. Despite this, the average household in the U.S. is grappling with over $10,000 in credit card debt. To help manage these expenses, financial experts from WalletHub have recommended spending caps for more than 550 cities across the country. One of the analysts, Chip Lupo, provided insights into the findings.
According to Lupo, “Athens-Clarke County averages a holiday budget of a little over $1,000.” He further explained, “Around Athens it makes sense because it’s primarily a college town…majority of the students leave the area during the holidays. It’s fairly moderate to low-income because it is a college town.”
The study took into account factors such as income, age, and the ratio of savings to expenses to determine these budget recommendations.
Interestingly, Roswell leads Georgia with the highest holiday budget, pegged at $3,000. On a broader scale, Palo Alto, CA, tops the list both among small cities and overall, with an impressive average holiday budget of $4,485.
