University of Michigan Staff Engage in Outreach at Camp North Star Reach
In a heartfelt display of community spirit, nearly 50 current and past members of the University of Michigan’s Voices of the Staff initiative gathered at Camp North Star Reach in Pinckney for an afternoon dedicated to community service. This event marked their second “Half Day of Service” at the camp, which offers outdoor adventures free of charge for children coping with major medical conditions.
The participants dedicated several hours to various service activities, preparing the camp for its upcoming opening in June. Tasks included cleaning windows, weeding flowerbeds, spreading mulch, splitting wood, and painting decorative “moose tracks” around the campgrounds.
“This is an amazing opportunity to reconnect with fellow alumni and make an impact at a camp that closely aligns with our value of service,” said Rich Holcomb, associate vice president for human resources. “There is a great sense of gratification in contributing, even in a small way, to the camp’s goal of providing memorable experiences for so many children.”
Voices of the Staff serves as the university’s primary program for employee engagement, aiming to give employees a platform to influence university operations and promote a culture of workplace advancement through acts of service.
