UGA’s New Development: Sand Volleyball Courts to Replace Legion Pool
The University of Georgia (UGA) is set to transform the site of the historic Legion Pool into a new facility featuring sand volleyball courts. This development comes as part of the university’s plans to enhance student recreational spaces.
After receiving approval from the University System of Georgia and the endorsement of Governor Brian Kemp, UGA will commence the demolition of Legion Pool to make way for the new courts. The construction is scheduled to start in the spring, with completion anticipated by the fall.
Currently, UGA stands out in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) as the only institution lacking sand volleyball courts. The introduction of these courts is expected to boost the university’s recreational offerings and has been met with enthusiasm from the campus’s Beach Volleyball club.
In addition to the courts, the area will serve as a “backyard gathering space” for students, according to the university. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to provide alternative sports facilities and enhance campus life.
