“Tahoe Housing Hub Launches Film Series Highlighting Local Stories”

New Film Series Highlights Housing Struggles in Tahoe Community

In an effort to shine a light on personal stories within the Tahoe community, a new series of short films is set to explore the diverse housing challenges faced by local residents. Shelly Purdy from the Tahoe Housing Hub emphasized the importance of these narratives in capturing the broader impact of the housing crisis.

“We really thought that it was important to focus on the personal stories of our local workforce, our local workers, and just let them tell their housing stories and tell their successes as well,” Purdy explained.

This year-long campaign will feature ten films, each depicting the experiences of individuals from various backgrounds, emphasizing the widespread nature of the housing issue. Purdy noted that this deliberate choice of diversity underscores the community-wide impact of housing challenges.

Currently, two films have been released. One follows Xander, a professional skier with roots in Truckee, who returned home after college to establish his life. Another film tells the story of Mary, a local artist and retiree, who narrates her profound connection to Kings Beach.

This initiative is supported by funding from a grant provided by the North Tahoe Community Alliance, aiming to raise awareness and foster dialogue about housing in the region.
