Scranton High School students found themselves on an unexpected journey when their planned trip to the presidential inauguration took a different turn. Despite initial disappointments, the experience in Washington, D.C., turned out to be more enriching than anticipated. Read more.

Having committed to this educational trip a year ago, students embarked on their fifth inauguration trip coordinated by teachers Sean Curry and Jerry Skotleski. The group arrived back in Scranton late Tuesday after a full day of activities at Capitol Hill. See how the trip unfolded here.

During their visit, students stood on the Rotunda stage, the very site where Donald Trump had been sworn in as the 47th president just the day before. The group had the unique opportunity to meet with several key political figures, including Sen. John Fetterman, Sen. Dave McCormick, and Rep. Rob Bresnahan. The trip was planned prior to knowing the parties’ nominees, adding an element of surprise to the experience.
