Nebraska Softball Team Advances to College World Series After Decisive Victory
In a breakthrough achievement, the Nebraska softball team has secured a spot in the College World Series for the first time in a decade. An explosive performance against Oklahoma State ensured their place in the tournament, marking a significant milestone for the Huskers since their last appearance in 2013.
The Huskers dominated the field with a resounding 9-1 victory in their home super regional, showcasing a formidable seven-run fifth inning that sealed their win over Oklahoma State. Freshman pitcher Alexis Jensen played a crucial role, delivering four solid innings and conceding only one run on two hits.
Initially trailing 1-0 after two innings, Nebraska’s offense found its rhythm in the third inning with two runs and subsequently erupted in the fifth inning, scoring seven runs. This offensive surge came after Oklahoma State’s pitcher, Ruby Meylan, was replaced, resulting in six additional runs for Nebraska.
The game saw senior All-American Jordy Frahm stepping in for Jensen in the fifth inning, where she maintained a scoreless defense to clinch the Huskers’ victory under the run rule in just five innings.
Senior player Hannah Coor led Nebraska’s offensive charge with three hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. Her defensive skills were also on display with a diving catch in the fourth inning that thwarted an extra-base hit. Fellow senior Lauren Camenzind contributed significantly with a home run and three RBIs, going 1-for-3 at the plate.
With a season record of 51-6, the Nebraska team now advances to Oklahoma City, where they will compete against either Arkansas or Duke in the Women’s College World Series, starting Thursday. This will mark the Huskers’ eighth appearance in the series.
In a post-game interview with ESPN, Coor expressed her excitement, saying, “I’m just so happy to be here and celebrate with this team. We have worked so, so hard for this moment.”
