Dunmore Mayor Max Conway speaks at a press conference on Monday, Feb. 24. Lackawanna County Commission Bill Gaughan, a Democrat, nominated Conway to replace former Lackawanna County Commissioner Matt McGloin.

At a press conference held earlier today, Gaughan introduced the 32-year-old Conway as his nominee. Conway is poised to fill the vacancy left by Matt McGloin, who resigned at age 35 to pursue a career opportunity in college football at Boston College.

The Democratic Executive Committee of the county is scheduled to convene on Thursday to shortlist three candidates for the judges’ consideration. While Conway is Gaughan’s choice, the judges have the final say and could opt for any of the other candidates put forth.

Conway began his term as mayor of Dunmore, the county’s largest borough, in January 2022. In the Democratic primary election of May 2021, he successfully ousted the long-standing Mayor Patrick “Nibs” Loughney, who had previously lost his re-election in 2017. Conway went on to win the general election unopposed in November.

Outside of his political career, Conway is married to Ally Gallo, a weathercaster at WNEP.
