New Exhibit Unveiling at Historic Athens Welcome Center

The Historic Athens Welcome Center is set to host a special opening reception for a compelling new exhibit, offering a glimpse into the rich history of Black education in Athens, Georgia. This complimentary event is scheduled for February 12th, running from 4 pm to 6 pm.

Entitled “Emancipation to Integration: Black Education in Athens, Georgia,” the exhibit delves into narratives of formerly enslaved individuals, the enduring impact of Black education in the region, and highlights the contributions of local Black educators and students during the Reconstruction era.
