Mary Frances Early Lecture Celebrates Legacy with Inspiring Address

This year, the University of Georgia celebrated the 64th anniversary of a pivotal moment in its history at the 26th annual Mary Frances Early Lecture. The event took place on Monday, honoring the legacy of Mary Frances Early, UGA’s first Black graduate. The lecture series continues to highlight the importance of diversity and resilience in education.

This year’s keynote speaker was Dr. Adrienne Madison, a distinguished research biomedical engineer and an alumna of UGA. Notably, Dr. Madison became the first person to earn a doctoral degree from UGA Engineering. Her speech, titled “A Legacy in Bloom: Rooted, Resilient, and Reaching,” touched on the enduring impact of Mary Frances Early’s trailblazing achievements.

Dr. Madison emphasized her commitment to inspiring future generations: “I’m going to do my part so that the future grad students as well as the current one can see that great things are possible and all of it is possible through Miss Early’s legacy.” Her words underscored the ongoing influence of Early’s groundbreaking accomplishments and the importance of maintaining that legacy for future students.
