North Carolina’s Unemployment Rate Steady in June 2025 Amid National Decline

The North Carolina Department of Commerce reported that the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for June 2025 remained at 3.7 percent, unchanged from May. In contrast, the national unemployment rate saw a slight decrease of 0.1 percentage point, settling at 4.1 percent. This marks a 0.1 percentage point increase in North Carolina’s unemployment rate compared to the same month last year.

The report detailed a decrease in the number of employed individuals in North Carolina, with a decline of 3,023 over the month and a drop of 6,560 compared to the previous year. Concurrently, the number of unemployed individuals rose by 464 over the month and increased by 5,610 over the year.

North Carolina’s Total Nonfarm employment experienced a rise in June, increasing by 5,000 to reach a total of 5,099,200 jobs. Key sectors contributing to job growth included Private Education & Health Services, Construction, and Leisure & Hospitality Services. However, declines were noted in Trade, Transportation & Utilities, and Manufacturing sectors.

Over the past year, the state has seen an increase of 80,200 Total Nonfarm jobs, with significant gains in Private Education & Health Services, Professional & Business Services, and Government sectors. Manufacturing and Information sectors have faced job declines over the same period.

The next update on county unemployment rates for June 2025 is scheduled for release on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
