Montana’s business environment is booming as a record number of new businesses have been registered in 2024, according to Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen. In a joint press conference with Gov. Greg Gianforte, Jacobsen revealed that over 63,814 new businesses filed this year, marking an increase of nearly 4,000 from 2023. The announcement took place at Granite Peak Athletics in Helena, a new business among the nearly 64,000 established this year.

“By cutting red tape, adopting pro-business policies, and working closely with Montana’s business community, we’ve made it easier than ever to do business in our great state. These intentional efforts have led to another record-breaking year for new business creation,” stated Secretary Jacobsen in a press release. Gov. Gianforte echoed this sentiment, highlighting the state’s commitment to fostering an environment where businesses thrive. “More Montanans are working than ever before and our entrepreneurs continue to create new businesses at record levels. This success is the result of our commitment to creating an environment where hardworking Montanans prosper and businesses flourish.”

Montana has seen a consistent rise in new business registrations for four consecutive years, with 50,000 new businesses in 2021, about 54,000 in 2022, and nearly 60,000 in 2023. Governor Gianforte has prioritized attracting job-creating businesses to the state, which has included tax code reforms to stimulate business investment.

Granite Peak Athletics, where the announcement was made, provides opportunities for young athletes to develop skills in a supportive environment. Co-Founder Nolan Gilbert expressed enthusiasm about contributing to the community. “It’s been awesome to be a bigger part of this community of our young athletes.”

The Montana Business Economic Report outlines the health of the state’s business economy, revealing that April was the peak month for new business registrations in 2024, with nearly 6,000 businesses filing. The report can be accessed on the Secretary of State’s website.
