Johnson & Johnson to Expand in NC, Adding 500 Jobs in Wilson Facility

North Carolina’s August Employment Figures Released

Johnson & Johnson, a leading global healthcare company, has announced a significant expansion in North Carolina, committing to a multibillion-dollar investment in the City of Wilson. This move is projected to create up to 500 new jobs at a cutting-edge drug product manufacturing facility, focusing on the production of medicines for oncology and neurological diseases. The announcement reflects the company’s strategy to manufacture the majority of its advanced medicines within the U.S. to address the demands of American patients. This development marks the third major investment by Johnson & Johnson in North Carolina’s life sciences sector in just over a year.

The new facility in Wilson is the latest in a series of investments by Johnson & Johnson in the region. Previously, in October 2024, the company unveiled a $2 billion project in Wilson, expected to generate 420 jobs, focusing on innovative biologics. Additionally, in August 2025, the company secured a new site in Holly Springs for biopharmaceutical manufacturing, involving a $2 billion investment over ten years to create 120 jobs. These initiatives underscore Johnson & Johnson’s confidence in North Carolina’s robust life sciences infrastructure.

Governor Josh Stein expressed appreciation for Johnson & Johnson’s decision, highlighting the state’s skilled workforce and commitment to specialized training as key factors in attracting life sciences leaders. The project will receive legislative support, including a $12 million appropriation for expanding the training center at Wilson Community College, alongside anticipated grants from the state’s Industrial Development Fund – Utility Account.

The investment is a collaborative effort involving several partners, including the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, and local institutions such as Wilson Community College. State representatives have emphasized the importance of workforce training initiatives to ensure the region is equipped to support the growing life sciences industry.
