In a recent press release, North Carolina Governor Josh Stein and Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley have extended a warm welcome to race fans attending the Window World 450 NASCAR Cup Series race weekend at North Wilkesboro Speedway. Scheduled from July 16 to 19, the event is supported by a reimbursement grant of up to $1.26 million from North Carolina’s Major Events, Games, and Attractions (MEGA) Fund. This NASCAR event is anticipated to draw visitors from 48 states, the District of Columbia, and eight foreign countries, including Australia, to North Carolina’s historic motorsports venue.
The Window World 450 race weekend will feature a packed schedule of NASCAR-related entertainment over four days. Beginning with a Cup Series hauler parade, the activities include NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series practice and qualifying, a zMAX CARS Tour doubleheader, and the FaithFest 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. The weekend will culminate with the North Wilkesboro Speedway’s first NASCAR Cup Series points race in nearly 30 years, providing significant economic benefits to the local region.
Governor Josh Stein emphasized the significance of hosting such events, stating that they bolster local economies and celebrate North Carolina’s rich motorsports heritage. Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley echoed this sentiment, highlighting the role of the MEGA Fund in attracting nationally recognized events that drive tourism and support local businesses. To date, the MEGA Fund has awarded over $48.9 million in grants to support events across the state.
Additionally, North Wilkesboro Speedway has partnered with the North Carolina Human Trafficking Commission on an awareness campaign during the race weekend. This initiative aims to educate attendees on recognizing and reporting signs of human trafficking, with educational displays and materials available throughout the venue. Jessica Fickenscher, executive vice president of North Wilkesboro Speedway, expressed pride in the partnership, underscoring the Speedway’s commitment to community safety and economic growth.
