Governor Josh Stein Announces BSH Home Appliances’ Expansion in NC

Thriving North Carolina Communities are the Focus of the Largest Statewide Downtown Revitalization Conference in the U.S.

Raleigh, N.C. — Governor Josh Stein announced that BSH Home Appliances Corporation, part of the Bosch Group, will create 199 new jobs in Craven County as part of an $11 million investment in its New Bern facility. This move aims to transform the New Bern site into a central hub for innovation and manufacturing within the United States. The expansion underscores North Carolina’s significance as a manufacturing leader and is expected to have a significant economic impact on the region.

The expansion will focus on enhancing BSH’s capabilities in cooking and dishwashing research, innovation, manufacturing, distribution, and customer support across the United States. BSH, known for its precision engineering and innovation, operates under the Bosch, Thermador, and Gaggenau brands. The new roles will offer an average annual salary of $60,779, surpassing the current average salary in Craven County. This development could lead to an annual payroll impact exceeding $12 million.

A performance-based grant of $500,000 from the One North Carolina Fund will support BSH’s expansion. The Fund assists local governments in attracting economic investments and creating jobs, with companies required to meet specific job creation and capital investment targets to qualify. The grant is contingent upon matching participation from local governments.

BSH’s decision to expand in North Carolina highlights the state’s manufacturing excellence and workforce capabilities, according to Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley. This expansion follows discussions between BSH, Secretary Lilley, and state leaders in Germany, which laid the groundwork for the project.

Key partners in the expansion include the North Carolina Department of Commerce, Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, North Carolina General Assembly, North Carolina Community College System, Craven Community College, North Carolina State University, and other local and state entities, alongside utility partners Duke Energy and Piedmont Natural Gas.
