Georgia Achieves Record Employment Levels Amid Falling Unemployment Rate
The state of Georgia continues to demonstrate economic resilience as its unemployment rate dropped to 3.5% in March, outpacing national trends, according to the Georgia Department of Labor. This decline from 3.6% in February signifies a positive shift in the state’s employment landscape.
In March, Georgia’s labor force expanded by 4,152, reaching a historic high of 5,455,254. Employment also saw a significant rise, increasing by 5,355 to a record 5,262,263. Meanwhile, the number of unemployed residents fell by 1,203, bringing the total to 192,991.
The state experienced a rebound in job creation, with total jobs rising by 4,700 to 4,982,800. This increase comes after two consecutive months of job declines, and it marks a year-over-year gain of 2,500 jobs.
Leading the charge in job growth, the health care and social assistance sectors added 2,900 positions, achieving a record total of 641,700 jobs. Additional employment gains were noted in wholesale trade, information, arts and entertainment, and other services.
Conversely, several sectors faced job reductions, including accommodation and food services, construction, real estate, professional services, and private education.
Although initial unemployment claims rose by 918 in March, reaching 17,469, this figure remains lower than the numbers recorded the previous year.
