Amanda Mills Appointed to Montana Board of Public Education Until 2033

Governor announces new state Board of Public Education member

Gov. Greg Gianforte’s Office has announced the appointment of Amanda Mills from Belgrade to the state Board of Public Education, filling a vacancy until 2033. This appointment to the Montana Board of Education, which supervises elementary and secondary schools, awaits senate confirmation in the 2027 Legislative session. The board, established by the 1972 Constitution, also adopts accreditation standards, certifies teachers, and handles state equalization aid distribution.

Mills, currently learning and development manager at Williams Plumbing, Heating and Civil Construction in Belgrade, contributes to apprenticeship programs and workforce training initiatives as part of a state trades education program. Her professional background includes roles in the Department of Veterans Affairs and as a teacher, according to the press release. Mills holds a bachelor’s degree from Life Pacific University and a master’s from Chapman University.

Gov. Gianforte underscored the importance of trades education during a visit to Williams Plumbing, emphasizing it as a “top priority” for preparing students for future careers. Board members serve seven-year terms, with a limit on political party affiliation. Current board members include Chair Tim Tharp from Savage, Vice Chair Ron Slinger of Miles City, and others such as Julia Maxwell, Renee Rasmussen, Lisa Schmidt, Hannah Nieskens, Lydia Comstock, Superintendent Susie Hedalen, Commissioner of Higher Education Clay Christian, and Gov. Gianforte.
