New Candidate Enters Race for Athens-Clarke County District 5 Commissioner
In a recent development, Zander Mason, a longtime resident of Athens, has entered the political arena by announcing his candidacy for the Athens-Clarke County District 5 Commissioner position. This announcement was made through a press release issued on Nov. 10.
The current officeholder, Dexter Fisher, is vacating the District 5 seat to pursue a mayoral candidacy. District 5 encompasses several neighborhoods, including Homewood Hills, where Mason resides, as well as Forest Heights, Moss Side, and Country Club Estates.
Mason brings a wealth of experience to his campaign, being an alumnus of Athens Academy and the University of Georgia. He has also held leadership positions in various local organizations such as Bigger Vision of Athens, Athens Jaycees, Palm House Recovery, and the Rotary Club of Athens. Professionally, Mason is a financial advisor.
The campaign will prioritize several key issues including enhancing public safety, expanding infrastructure, delivering housing solutions, fostering economic development, and supporting youth and educational initiatives.
To facilitate open dialogue with residents, Mason’s campaign plans to host a series of events in District 5 neighborhoods in the upcoming year, as stated in the press release.
