Firefly Trail Photo Contest Celebrates Beauty and Fun on the Path

First-ever Firefly Trail photo contest accepting submissions

Photography Enthusiasts Invited to Capture the Essence of Firefly Trail

Firefly Trail Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to the development of a 39-mile multi-use trail, is inviting photographers to participate in a new photo contest. This initiative aims to encourage people to explore and appreciate the natural beauty along the trail. John Kissane, the trail development coordinator, is enthusiastic about the potential of this project.

“It’s very photogenic, I think, the trail,” says Kissane. “There’s some beautiful rural areas I think, and the towns it passes through now. There’s a lot of potential for some really creative photographs.”

The contest features two distinct categories, as explained by board member Betsey Collins: “The two categories are people having fun on the Firefly Trail, and the second category is scenes on the Firefly Trail.”

Recently, the Firefly Trail has been a topic of debate, especially concerning the section that connects Athens to Winterville. Delays are occurring as local officials deliberate on property acquisition necessary for trail completion. While the Firefly Trail Inc. board remains neutral on the exact route, they are eager for progress.

“We’re all anxious to see the trail completed as soon as it can be here in Athens-Clarke County, so we would not want to see it delayed, but there are other considerations besides the timeline that have to be evaluated,” Kissane remarked.

Interested participants can find the contest rules on fireflytrail.com. Winning photos will be awarded prizes and showcased at the Winterville Cultural Center starting in February.
