Guilford County’s Growth and Challenges Discussed in Annual Address
The recent State of the County address in Guilford County focused on both the impressive economic advancements and ongoing challenges in the region. During the address, county leaders emphasized the substantial business investments and residential developments that are shaping the county’s future.
Board of Commissioners Chair Skip Alston underscored the impact of notable investments by companies like JetZero, which are expected to create over 14,000 new jobs. “While we may not yet match our state’s two largest counties in population size, we are matching them in strategic investments, community amenities, quality jobs, and excellence in education. And we are seeing results,” Alston stated.
The county is not only experiencing economic growth but also a rise in residential development, with permits issued for more than 700 new single-family homes in 2025, according to data shared in the presentation.
Despite these developments, Alston acknowledged that there are still significant issues to address, particularly in public health. He highlighted that Guilford County’s infant mortality rate remains higher than both state and national averages. In response, the county has introduced an Infant Mortality Task Force to tackle this pressing concern.
