University Student and Assailant Incident Sparks Online Fundraising Efforts
An incident involving a University of Georgia student and a local Athens man has led to the emergence of online fundraising campaigns that have quickly gained traction. This comes after a violent altercation at a downtown Athens bar that resulted in an arrest and subsequent release.
Kenneth Leland Morgan, a 33-year-old resident of Athens, has been released from jail after posting a bond exceeding $15,000. Morgan was detained on charges of misdemeanor simple battery and felony aggravated assault following the incident late last week.
Surveillance footage from the night of the incident depicts Morgan, clad in a Nazi uniform, engaged in a physical assault against a woman later identified as Grace Lang, a student at the University of Georgia. Lang claims she confronted Morgan to urge him to remove the offensive symbols from his attire.
The University of Georgia has confirmed that Morgan has no affiliation with the university.
In response to the incident, crowd-sourced funding pages have been established under the names of both involved individuals, rapidly accumulating tens of thousands of dollars in contributions.
