Reno Airport Rejects TSA’s Partisan Video Amid Federal Pay Crisis

Reno and Vegas airports refuse to play Kristi Noem’s video blaming Dems for the gov shutdown

Airport Video Controversy Amid Federal Worker Hardships

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) aims to maintain safety and efficiency for travelers, but recent political tensions have stirred challenges. In a brief video, Noem emphasized, “It is TSA’s top priority to make sure that you have the most pleasant and efficient airport experience as possible while we keep you safe. However, Democrats in Congress refuse to fund the federal government, and because of this, many of our operations are impacted, and most of our TSA employees are working without pay.”

However, the Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RTAA) decided not to show this video. A written statement from the airport highlighted its commitment to nonpartisanship, citing both internal policies and the Hatch Act, which limits political activities in federally funded settings.

“The Hatch Act, as well as the RTAA’s policies, ensure airport facilities remain nonpartisan and focused on the safe and efficient operation of transportation services, which is in the best interest of the traveling public and our broader community,” stated Nicolle Staten, the manager of public affairs.

Since the start of October, federal airport employees have been performing their duties without receiving pay. In response, the Reno airport has partnered with local organizations, including the Children’s Cabinet and the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, to provide essential resources like food and diapers to those affected.
