Hope for Settlement in Camp Lejeune Water Cases
In a turn of events that may bring relief to many, a law firm involved in the Camp Lejeune toxic water cases suggests that a significant number of claims could be resolved by year-end. This optimism comes in light of new data shared by the Camp Lejeune Claims Unit.
Attorneys from Zois and Miller have revealed that, after filtering out duplicate submissions, around 401,000 administrative claims have been lodged with the Department of the Navy. Notably, about 50,000 of these claims—or roughly 12%—pertain to illnesses or injuries recognized within the government’s settlement framework, signaling that these may be prioritized for settlement.
The vast majority of claims involve injuries that, despite potential links to toxic water exposure, do not meet the government’s criteria for expedited processing. Consequently, these cases could encounter substantial legal challenges and extended litigation.
The attorneys have cautioned that claims involving less straightforward injuries might experience significant delays due to the need for more comprehensive evidence and potentially lengthy court proceedings.
