DEA Intercepts Major Meth Shipment Bound for Atlanta
In a significant blow to drug trafficking efforts, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) successfully intercepted 700 pounds of methamphetamine destined for Atlanta. This major seizure unfolded after a routine traffic stop of a tractor trailer in Gainesville.
The operation was initiated following a tip-off that alerted authorities to the drugs being concealed within cardboard boxes. These boxes, cleverly designed to hide the illicit substances, managed to pass through border security undetected, even under X-ray examination.
Two individuals, Andres Jasso Junior and Rufino Perez, have been charged with possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. Notably, Rufino Perez is not a U.S. citizen and has a history of being deported on at least two occasions. The confiscated drugs are estimated to have a street value of approximately $4.5 million.
