In a significant development for environmental advocacy at Lake Tahoe, the League to Save Lake Tahoe is celebrating a milestone with the inauguration of the Spurlock/Evers Environment and Education Center. This new facility represents a renewed dedication to the League’s ongoing efforts for clean water, wildfire resilience, and sustainable development in the region.
Adrián Escobedo, the League’s community program director, expressed the organization’s enthusiasm, stating, “This new building for Keep Tahoe Blue is a symbol of our renewed commitment to the Tahoe community and to our mission here at the League.”
Constructed with sustainability in mind, the building incorporates recycled denim insulation and wood salvaged from the 2021 Caldor Fire, and it replaces an older outdated structure. The new center also includes public amenities such as an amphitheater, a native plant garden, and a conference room, enhancing its utility and accessibility for community engagement.
“Now we’re gonna be able to reach more people and offer a space where we can really collaborate with our partners and connect in a more meaningful way with locals and visitors,” added Escobedo, highlighting the center’s potential to foster collaboration and community involvement.
Scheduled to open its doors to the public on July 11, the center will host an open house event featuring tours, live music, and food trucks between 4 and 6 p.m. The center is located at 2877 Lake Tahoe Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe.
