Cyberattack on Georgia Power Compromises Customer Information
A recent cybersecurity breach has impacted Georgia Power, putting sensitive data of around 300,000 customers at risk. The infiltration was identified by Southern Company, Georgia Power’s parent organization, which noted “suspicious activity” involving unauthorized access to customer information.
Hackers exploited Georgia Power’s online portal to compromise customer data, prompting the company to act swiftly. Immediate measures were implemented to halt the breach, and law enforcement agencies have been notified to assist in the ongoing investigation.
Georgia Power is actively reaching out to those affected and is offering free credit monitoring services to mitigate potential risks. The company reassures that, thus far, there is no evidence of continued unauthorized access.
“We understand the trust customers place in us,” said Georgia Power in an official statement, emphasizing their commitment to safeguarding customer information.
