With an anticipated debate looming in the 9th District congressional race, U.S. Rep. Dan Meuser has opted not to participate. His opponent, Rachel Wallace, had agreed to the televised discussion proposed by WVIA-TV.
The debate, scheduled for late October, remains uncertain following Meuser’s decision. Meanwhile, preparations are underway for a separate debate in the 8th District.
Meuser, representing Luzerne County and seeking a fifth term, faces Wallace, a Democrat from Schuylkill County with experience in the U.S. Senate, State Department, and White House.
8th District Candidates Prepare for Debate
In the neighboring 8th District, Republican nominee U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan and Democratic nominee Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti are set to engage in a debate.
The 55-minute debate is scheduled for October 29 at 7 p.m. at WVIA-TV’s Sordoni studio in Jenkins Township.
Panelists for this event include WVIA News reporter Borys Krawczeniuk, Donnie Collins of the Times-Tribune, and Francine Schertzer from PCN TV. Veteran broadcaster Tracey Matisak will act as both producer and moderator.
The debate will be broadcast live on WVIA-TV and WVIA Radio, and also available for streaming on WVIA’s website and YouTube channel. Local media outlets will have access to broadcast the event as well.
