Maha Music Festival Celebrates 16th Year with New Vibes in Downtown Omaha
Set against the backdrop of the Heartland of America Park, Omaha’s Maha Music Festival returns for its 16th anniversary, adding a fresh chapter to its storied history. This year marks the second time the festival graces this downtown location, promising a unique blend of music and atmosphere.
Over the years, Maha has hosted renowned performers, including past headliners like Car Seat Headrest and Weezer. This year’s lineup is headlined by UK indie rock sensation Wet Leg, with Omaha’s own Bright Eyes taking the stage just before them. Conor Oberst, the lead figure of Bright Eyes, is no stranger to the city’s music scene, having contributed significantly to its indie folk-rock narrative since the 1990s. Despite their longstanding presence, this performance will mark Bright Eyes’ debut at the Maha Festival.
Oberst shared his enthusiasm for the festival, saying, “I went to Maha last year because I’m friends with this band Waxahatchee, so I went down to watch them. It was such an enjoyable thing, and I liked the new setup so much that, I think it was even that night, I was talking to someone… Like, ‘we should play this,’ said casually that night because it was so fun. And now it’s really happening. A year later, wishes come true.”
Historically, the festival was held at Stinson Park in the Aksarben neighborhood, evolving into a multi-day event with multiple stages. However, after a brief hiatus in 2024 due to financial constraints, Maha returned with a more focused approach. The festival now features a streamlined one-day, one-stage format at the rejuvenated Heartland of America Park.
Oberst expressed approval for the festival’s new setup, noting, “It just feels better down there. I give a big thumbs up to this new location.” This endorsement adds to the anticipation for this year’s event, highlighting the park’s appeal as a venue for music enthusiasts.
