Longtime UGA Leader Assumes Interim Provost Role Amid Search for Permanent Successor
In a significant leadership transition at the University of Georgia (UGA), Dr. Ron Walcott has been appointed as the interim Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. His appointment follows Dr. Benjamin Ayers’ departure to lead Clemson University as President.
Dr. Walcott, who has been an integral part of UGA for nearly three decades, will officially begin his interim duties on August 1st. During his tenure as UGA’s first Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Dean of the Graduate School, Walcott has overseen notable advancements in graduate education. These include a 20% rise in graduate enrollment and an impressive 82% boost in scholarships and fellowships for graduate students.
UGA President Jere Morehead expressed confidence in Dr. Walcott’s leadership, stating that he is “a respected campus leader” and emphasizing the anticipation of working together in the upcoming weeks.
